We are located about 10km east of the Sydney CBD.

Bus & train
The 325 bus from Sydney CBD and Edgecliff station stops outside our gates. The bus trip from Edgecliff station takes about 20 minutes.

You can also take bus 324 (from Sydney CBD or Edgecliff) to Vaucluse shops, and then it’s a 10-minute walk down a signposted public walkway to Vaucluse House.

Ferry
From the Watson’s Bay ferry terminal, Vaucluse House is about 7 minutes on the 325 bus, or a 30-minute walk, including 2km along the shoreline via Parsley Bay.

Parking
There is free on-site parking available for museum visitors and Estate Restaurant patrons, Wednesday to Sunday, 9:30am - 4.30pm. Entrance is via Wentworth Avenue.

Cycling
This is a popular area for cyclists, but note that coming from the CBD involves riding up the infamous ‘Heartbreak Hill’ of New South Head Road. We have signposted bike racks in the car park where you can chain your bike.

• All umbrellas and bags over handbag size must be cloaked.
• Strollers are not allowed in the main house, but can be left at reception.
• Professional camera equipment, including tripods, lighting etc, must be left at reception unless you have organised permission beforehand. For more information, please view our Photography conditions of use.
• Children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
• Wear enclosed shoes if you’re keen on exploring the gardens and grounds to their full extent.
• Bring a hat and sunscreen as it’s easy to spend many hours in the gardens – and bring a picnic to enjoy.
• The grounds in front of Vaucluse House are regularly booked for private events that have priority access to this area. During an event, you may be asked to move somewhere else. Thank you for your cooperation
• Dogs are not permitted in the pleasure garden

Estate Vaucluse House

The elegant Estate restaurant is the ultimate dining and event experience. Enjoy a menu that blends the style and grace of the art deco surrounds with the very best seasonal produce and fresh hand-picked ingredients from the Vaucluse House Kitchen Garden. Open for coffee, lunch, high tea and takeaway options.

As Vaucluse House is a historic site, care should be taken with floor surfaces, stairways and low light levels. The only exit for the house is the entry point. Exit from the upper floor is by the main stairs.

For visitors with limited mobility Vaucluse House carpark has two designated accessible parking spaces allowing gently sloping access to Estate Restaurant (66 metres). Access to the Museum is also available from the carpark for less mobile visitors who are assisted, there is a steep main pathway and uneven gravelled surfaces (240 metres). We also advise that visitors with limited mobility or using walkers or wheelchairs can be dropped off at the Museum entry point using an alternate driveway access from Olola Avenue (east). Accessible toilets are available on site adjacent to the stables.

The ground floor of Vaucluse House is accessible by wheelchair, noting that uneven heritage surfaces are present and ramps are provided over some raised entries and thresholds. The first and second floors can only be accessed by stairs with 35 steps, and the top floor by a further 10 stairs. The cellar is down a flight of steep, stone stairs (15 steps). For visitors who are unable to directly access these areas, folders with images are provided and our team are happy to assist you with these.

Note that due to the uneven ground and gravel pathways, much of the gardens can be difficult to access for those with limited mobility.
