Richard Stringer: Photographer
Richard Stringer, born in Melbourne in 1936, came to photography through training and practise as an architect.
He moved to Brisbane in 1963 and in 1967 established a photographic business, recording historic buildings and gardens throughout Australia using large-format press cameras. These cameras enabled him to capture a lot of detail and to control perspective.
Richard’s photographs are held in state and national collections. The selection on display in the Caroline Simpson Library & Research Collection was specially printed by Richard, using archival inks on acid free paper, in 2015.It has been drawn from a portfolio of 55 images, dating from 1968 to 2003, mostly documenting interiors that are now lost.
