Sydney Opera House Sustainability Tour
Join us on this special sustainability tour and discover what makes the Sydney Opera House a 6-star Green Star–rated building. Learn about how the Sydney Opera House supports the UN Global Goals for sustainable development including Climate Action and Life Under Water.
Sustainability is in the Opera House's DNA. For thousands of years, the Gadigal people would come to Bennelong Point to meet, share stories and music. Their land management ensured the preservation of their food sources. Sydney Opera House architect, Jørn Utzon, incorporated sustainable design elements into the building.
The tour will start by highlighting the intrinsic connections between the Sydney Opera House and the natural environment, from architectural design to sustainable building operations. You'll hear examples of quality design supporting sustainable operation, such as our pioneering seawater cooling system and the Drama Theatre and Concert Hall energy efficiency upgrades. The tour will also take you behind the scenes to see how we are diverting over 85% of our waste away from landfill.
The tour will be led by Emma Bombonato, Environmental Sustainability Manager at the Sydney Opera House, and Amanda Alegata, Environmental Sustainability Project Coordinator, and will be supported by a Sydney Opera House tour guide.
