Historical Tour of Long’s Lane
Step into Sydney’s storied past with a guided tour of the Long’s Lane Precinct in The Rocks. This historic collection of 14 terrace residences, built between 1857 and 1915, offers a rare glimpse into 19th-century urban life. Located along Cumberland and Gloucester Streets and Long’s and Caraher’s Lanes, the area retains much of its original character, with early laneway alignments and sandstone flagstones still visible.
Once home to sailors, Māori whalers, and a mix of boarding houses, the precinct holds countless stories waiting to be uncovered. Highlights include the Old Butcher’s Shop with its hidden cellar and the charming ‘lolly shop’ window. Archaeological remains of even earlier buildings add another layer to its rich history.
This 60-90 minute tour explores the people, architecture, and stories that shaped Long’s Lane.
