Jamisonia

Jamisonia is a finely finished Californian bungalow built in the late 1920s by brothers John and Samuel Jamieson for the Jamieson family. John and Samuel had learnt the building trade from their father, Samuel, a Scottish immigrant and long-term Manly resident.
Jamisonia was at first the home of John & Dorothy Jamieson and family, and then passed to John’s sister Mrs Margaret Sargent and then her unmarried daughter Marjorie. The house remained in family ownership for around 60 years and was little altered during that time.
Even when the living room was photographed in 1996 just prior to the house’s sale for the third time, most of the original fittings and fixtures were still in place. Double doors with decorative leadlight opened from the hall onto the generously sized living room. Inside, original features included the fireplace with cupboards built in on either side, the joinery such as plate rail, overmantel and skirting boards and the panelled wallpaper with floral corner decoration.
