Shadow Play Workshop with Jumaadi
Step into the world of shadow play with artist Jumaadi in this hands-on workshop.
Drawing on the traditional Indonesian art of shadow puppetry, wayang kulit, and the rich array of silhouettes in Museums of History NSW collections, you’ll craft your own shadow figures and scenes that bring together creativity, imagination and a love of storytelling.
Ticket includes one complimentary adult admission. Adults are required to supervise participating children. Suitable for ages 5+

About Jumaadi
Jumaadi was born in Indonesia and migrated to Australia in 1996. He completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in painting at the National Art School, Sydney in 2000 and a Masters in 2008. Jumaadi works across a range of mediums, including drawing, painting, installation and performance. His works are in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Art Gallery of South Australia, the Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney, the Rockhampton Museum of Art, and in many regional galleries, and public and private collections in Australia and overseas.
His practice is informed by personal experience as well as the political and aesthetic lineages of his homeland, including wayang kulit, a tradition of shadow puppet plays that originated in Java and Bali. Some of his most recognisable works are large-scale paintings on cloth, sculpted buffalo hide, bronze casting and paper cutouts.
