Archives behind the scenes - school files

We hold NSW School Files from 1876 to 1979. These are the correspondence held by the Department of Education about an individual school.

You might find information such as: applications to have a school in an area; letters about the school buildings or if it moved site; letters about the teachers who taught there; complaints by parents; inspectors reports about the teachers and the teachers' responses to those reports. There might be diagrams and plans of the school as well... all sorts of things. The files really are a fabulous source, not only for school history but also for the history of a local community. Find out more in this episode of Archives Behind the Scenes.
