Spoken Memory: Exploring the Museums of History NSW oral history collection

This placement offers a student the opportunity to work with Museums of History NSW’s rich oral history collection, which records the reflections of diverse individuals connected to our historic places.

Working under guidance, the student will support MHNSW curators in researching and cataloguing a collection of 200 digitised oral history interviews.

This will involve reviewing, assessing and describing uncatalogued interviews, piloting the use of AI transcription software to create transcripts and summaries, researching corporate records to locate existing transcripts and release forms, and entering data into spreadsheets and a digital asset management system. The student will also prepare a written report and presentation on the collection's content.

Through this work, the student will develop skills in analysing and evaluating information, as well as in researching and report writing.

This is a valuable opportunity to help position the oral history collection as a rich resource for future research and interpretation projects.
