Unearthed: Exclusive Teacher Event at Museum of Sydney

You’re invited to join us at the Museum of Sydney to discover a range of learning opportunities for students in stages 2, 3 and 4.

This is also an exclusive opportunity to take a curator tour of our new exhibition, Unearthed. The groundbreaking exhibition highlights a significant archaeological dig that unearthed the remains of Australia’s first Government House in the 1980s and 90s.

The evening will include:

  • curator talks
  • workshops with our Learning team
  • networking
  • and more!

Stage 4:
Unearthed: Digging Up the Past

Emily with students looking at artefacts in Museum of Sydney for Unearthed: Digging Up the Past pilot program.

Do you want to take your Stage 4 students to the site of a significant archaeological dig? Engage them in the process of excavation? And get them thinking about the value of archaeology?

Students learning an Aboriginal stringing technique in the Gadigal Place Gallery of the Museum of Sydney as part of the Garuwanga Gurad (Stories that belong to Country) program

This hands-on program enables students to explore links between First Nations and European histories on the site of the first Government House: ground zero for colonisation. Learn about the different cultures and perspectives present in the expanding colony of NSW in the 19th century. Consider the themes of resilience, survival and resistance in the colony as they apply to both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people through object-handling, sensory activities, primary sources, and storytelling

Stage 2:
Whose Place?

Students exploring the Edge of the Trees sculpture at Museum of Sydney for Whose Place program

Bring your students to the Museum of Sydney to ask the question: Whose place is this? Held on the site of Australia’s first Government House, this program invites students to investigate early contact between British colonists and Aboriginal peoples. Engage in a variety of object-based learning and group activities to examine different perspectives on the impact of British settlement
